Road Trip

One of my fondest memories of Norm was a road trip we made out West together. Norm and I met up one late saturday evening at Inn On The Bay, we were both going on holidays and were tossing around ideas on what to do on our holidays. Well as the hour got later and the ideas crazier , Norm announced that he had never gone out West. So half joking i said Ok , lets do it , as it was closing time at Inn. I woke up a few hours later, to Norm blaring on his car horn in my driveway, it was time to go. It was 5:30 in the morning! I stumbled outside, ....are you kidding me? No , said Norm I'm all packed which i was to find out later , that consisted of a carefully packed green garbage bag full of last weeks laundry , an old tent, and the best item ........an empty cooler......what else do you need! I remember asking where are we going , let's go to Banff , Norm replied. I packed some clothes and we were off. About six hours later, we were in Ste.Saint Marie , then Thunderbay, Norm operating the flight controls all the way. Lots of crazy things, happened on the trip out Ontario. Anyway, as we were "almost there" we decide to drive straight out non stop, except to eat and gas . We were in Calgary, by noon we toured around there for a couple of hours and drove to Banff , Lake Louise . Basically we drove about 3200 KMS in a day and a half. We spent the remainder of the day and next exploring Banff from our camp site at Lake Louise, it was beautiful place. On the morning of our third day in Banff, Norm said " it was a nice here, but we better get heading home!" I never was quite sure if it was cause there was a beer strike in Banff that summer, an all we could get was USA beers or that our food supplies were running low? Anyway no arguing with Norm, we loaded up and drove non-stop all the way home . The morale of the story " you can take the boy out of Muskoka , but you can never take Muskoka out of the boy". RIP Norm, thanks for all the memories.
